Shoshin Karate
Kobudo
Traditional Okinawan weapons training (Kobudo), which includes
weapons such as the Bo and Jo, Tonfa, Tekko, Eku, and Sai.
Class structure is relaxed, aiming to build comfort and proficiency in
weapon handling and control. The goal of the program is to help students gain confidence in self-protection and practical application of weapons.
Kobudo literally means “ancient martial ways”. In the dojo setting, it refers to the
traditional Okinawan weapons whose history and practice has been linked to that of karate. Most Okinawan styles have at least some kobudo/kobujutsu curriculum. The most common kobudo weapons and the ones most often taught by Okinawan karate systems are the bo, the sai, nunchaku, the kama, and the tonfa.
